Tik Tok. Have you heard of it? What exactly is it? It’s an app that lets you create short-form videos and put it to music. It used to be called Musical.ly but was bought out by ByteDance, the company that created Tik Tok. So they bought it out and has quickly become the third most downloaded app in the world (as of November 2018). Tik Tok is becoming huge in North America and is starting to captivate the youth.

For that reason I think it’s important for business owners and personal brands to pay attention to this platform. Social platforms usually start off with youth, and then they gradually grow in age groups, just like Facebook did. It started in universities. Instagram started off with youth. Snapchat started with youth. These apps always start young and then the age group starts to grow once it gains popularity. And when the youth can teach the older age groups!

Another reason why it’s important to pay attention to this app right now is because of its relevance. When you look on the app store and see it’s been downloaded over 500 million times, which is outrageous, that should show you the popularity of it. Go where the people are.  

You should be paying attention to this wildly popular app and try to figure out ways you can develop content on there, then start to test it out. Yes, even though your business may not work with youth, Tik Tok will gain followers in older age groups (or has potential to do that) and if it does, you want to be there early. Maybe your business does sell products to youth or pre-teens, and if so, this app is a must for you.
